Google TV to be launched in fall

14 September 2010 10:09 (UTC+04:00)

BAKU – Looks like the television set will be the new battleground for Google and Apple, the two companies which are also competing for market share in the smart phone and tablet computer markets, Financial Express reported.

This autumn Google will launch its Google TV service in the US thus bringing the web to TV, the internet giant’s chief executive Eric Schmidt has said. The service will be available in the rest of the world by next year. The announcement comes a week after Apple’s chief executive Steve Jobs unveiled a miniaturised version of his Apple TV, which lets people rent films and TV shows, and stream content from YouTube.

Schmidt said the Google TV service, which would allow full internet browsing via the television, would be free, and that Google would work with programme makers and electronics manufacturers to bring it to consumers.
