Baku’s International Mugham Center has hosted a memorial evening devoted to an outstanding mugham master, People's Artist of Azerbaijan, Yaqub Mammadov.
The event was organized within the joint project of the International Mugham Center and Mədəniyyət’ TV channel.
The event first featured a video about the life and creativity of the mugham master.
Born in Agjabadi region, Yagub Mammadov (1930-2002) was one of the brightest representatives of the Karabakh Mugham School.
For many years he was a soloist of the Azerbaijan state Philharmonic Society.
Head of the Karabakh Department of Azerbaijan's Union of Writers Enver Akhmed noted that the Karabakh School of mugham had a peculiar quality. A singer first of all is required to have a beautiful, strong voice with a wide range, the ability to freely sing in the lower and upper registers. Karabakh mugham masters are famous for their skills and unique techniques and improvisation.
The concert was hosted by Doctor of Philosophy Gulguseyn Kazimli.
