Transport sector attracts most of foreign funds

Roughly 62 percent of the international financial institutions' funds, directed at financing the projects in Azerbaijan in 2015, accounted for the projects in the field of transport.

The Accounting Chamber announced about it in its conclusion to the report on the execution of the state budget-2015, submitted to the country's parliament for discussion.

Under the report, $4.97 billion were directed by international financial institutions to implement 13 projects in the transport sector in 2015. Some $1.88 billion were spent to finance 11 projects in the field of water supply and sewerage, $355.9 million - three projects in the field of energy supply, $345.4 million - five projects in the sphere of agriculture, $29.8 million - three projects in the field of finance, $478.4 million - to finance 10 projects in other areas.

In general, the international financial institutions have directed more than $8.05 billion to finance 45 projects in Azerbaijan for the last year.

The analysis of the loan reports of the international financial institutions, issued under the state guarantee, shows that most of the funds allocated in 2015 (33.9 percent or $2.73 billion), accounted for the World Bank's share. During the reporting period, the WB financed 17 projects in Azerbaijan.

The commercial banks directed $1.9 billion to implement seven projects in Azerbaijan, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) - $1.47 billion for eight projects, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) - $750 million per project, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) - $525.62 million for two projects, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) - $411.28 million for four projects, German Development Bank KfW (Germany) - $191.42 million for four projects, the Saudi Fund for Development - $60 million for two projects and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) - $19.7 million per project.
