The Azerbaijan Tourism Association monitors prices at tourism facilities in the country as tourist season continues and will continue to regulate prices for tourist services in the regions, says Advisor to the Chairman Muzaffar Agakerimov.

The monitoring will cover three and four star hotels, resorts and recreation centers, he said.

The association will explore hotel pricing policies along with their compliance with the star classification.

Hotel and recreation facilities will then receive instructions that will allow them to be compliant with standards issues by the Ministry of Tourism.

Agakerimov noted the Association has already evaluated more than 60 hotels in Baku.

“It was found that about 30 three and four star hotels in Baku have reduced prices for services by 15-30 percent. Other hotels in Baku are also reviewing their pricing policy,” he added.

Azerbaijan has the capacity to accommodate over 35,000 tourists in its 530 hotels. The country is expecting to increase its tourist flow up to 5 million a year.

Earlier, observations were held in the country to check the readiness of the tourism facilities for the Baku 2015 European Games. They showed that the country was well prepared to meet the demands of sport fans from around the world.

Over 28,000 foreign tourists had visited Azerbaijan during the Games in June, after the host country eased the visa regime.

Azerbaijani hotels now attracts more tourists from Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Czech Republic, Japan, Belgium, Poland, Turkey, Moldova, China, Germany, and Romania.

In the next few years, the country expects to attract tourists for the Formula 1 race, the Islamic Solidarity Games, and the quarterfinals and three group games of the Euro 2020.

In the meantime, the Azerbaijani Tourism Ministry cautions tourists from Azerbaijan to use services of tourism agencies that have the appropriate documentation – such as tourism vouchers issued by the ministry – when travelling abroad for summer vacations.

In addition, the client and travel agency should conclude a relevant contract.

“Tourists that rest in the regions of Azerbaijan are also recommended to use the services of facilities that are licensed to work in the hospitality industry, which is issued by the Culture and Tourism Ministry,” said in a statement.

In case of any problems associated with the activities of tourist companies and facilities, citizens should send an official request to [email protected] or call the ministry at (+994 12) 492 88 50.
