Azerbaijan and Tajikistan have mulled the cooperation in the transport field.

The discussions were held between Azerbaijani Ambassador to Tajikistan Abbasali Hasanov and Tajik Transport Minister Khayrullo Asoyev.

The meeting discussed the issues regarding the railway tariffs for Tajikistan for the cargo transportation through Azerbaijan and resuming the direct flights between Baku and Dushanbe.

The parties also discussed the possibility of using the two countries' capitals as transit cities in air traffic, both in the westerly and easterly directions.

Hasanov said it is necessary to take urgent measures to address the factors negatively affecting the growth in trade and economic ties between the two countries.

Minister Asoyev and Ambassador Hasanov agreed to hold a meeting of competent officials from the transport ministries of both countries to address the issues of mutual interest.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on May 29, 1992. Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan increased by 2.8 times to $44 million in 2012.
