WEF founder says Azerbaijan has great potential for long-term economic success

All countries in the region understand what potential has been laid in Azerbaijan for long-term economic success, founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab said in Baku on Monday.

Baku is hosting the meeting of the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum) "Strategic Dialogue on the Future of the South Caucasus and Central Asia" on Monday. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the event. He delivered a speech at the forum.

According to Schwab, Azerbaijan dominates in the sectors of finance and information technology.

The geostrategic position of the region is also a condition of its successful development, he said.

"The purpose of the event is to lay the foundations for the development of the South Caucasus and Central Asia. We create the opportunity for the development of the region and use of its potential," Schwab said.

Voting of the participants on how they see the future of the South Caucasus and Central Asia was held at the forum.

Some 62.3 percent of the participants voted for integration, 22 percent - for fragmentation and 15.7 percent - for the polarization of the regions.

Also at the event, a video on the development of the South Caucasus was demonstrated to the participants.
