500 manat banknotes may be issued in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is expected to issue banknotes in large denominations of 150, 200 and 500 manats in the future, Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) board chairman Elman Rustamov said Tuesday.
``At present, relevant design work is underway,`` Rustamov said. ``Issue of such banknotes will be possible after an appropriate decision.``
The CBA chairman said the timing of the issuance is yet unknown.
``We have discussed the issue with the government. I hope this could happen in the coming years,`` Rustamov said.
Currently, the biggest banknote used in Azerbaijan is worth 100 manats ($127).
