Azerbaijan’s telecom market ranks fifth in CIS: agency

Azerbaijan’s telecommunications market ranks fifth among the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) markets, excluding Russia, Polish analytical agency PMR has said.

The top three among the ex-Soviet bloc’s member states are Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus, while Uzbekistan has the fourth biggest telecom market in CIS, says PMR’s report for 2011.

On per capita telecommunication expenses, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Belarus are the region’s leaders, the agency concluded. Ukraine was rated seventh.

PMR analysts predicted that the CIS telecom services market will grow 5.5 percent to 11 billion euros in 2012. The growth will be fueled by increasing revenues of cellular operators.
