Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Azerbaijani state water supplier Azersu have signed a memo to establish a water supply and sanitation system in the Kurdakhany settlement of Baku, according to the KOICA office in Azerbaijan.

The "record of discussions" of the project aiming to eliminate water shortages on the entire Absheron Peninsula was signed by the Resident Representative of KOICA Azerbaijan Office Kim Eun Suk and chairman of the Azersu open joint stock company Gorkhmaz Huseynov on Thursday.

KOICA will provide a grant worth over $26.1 million for the four-year project.

The objective of the project is to upgrade the standard of living of the residents and enhance the environmental conditions by providing water supply and sewerage system in the Kurdakhany settlement. The project will support the Azerbaijani government’s efforts to develop alternative water resources and adapt to climate change. In addition, it aims to strengthen the relationship and cooperation between the two countries through the successful implementation of the project, KOICA said.

KOICA will provide detailed design, construction and construction supervision of water supply and sanitation system in Kurdakhany, as well as equipment and materials necessary for the implementation of the project. The agency will also dispatch Korean experts to Azerbaijan to provide technical advice and invite Azerbaijani officials and specialists for the training program in Korea.

KOICA is a Korean government agency with 43 representative offices in partner countries implementing the government's grant aid and technical cooperation programs.
