Bank accounts of Turkish businessman frozen
ANKARA – A Turkish businessman working in Azerbaijan and Albania, arrested in Spain with a top aide to former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on charges of alleged money laundering, fraud and corruption in international trade transactions, has reportedly seen his bank accounts frozen.
Turkish Hurriyet newspaper reported that the account of Albania Airlines, a company in which Ali Evsen holds 93 percent of stock, has been frozen as well. Evsen’s account in the company is said to hold $4.25 million.
Evsen has allegedly transferred 17 million euros to the accounts of Hussein Salem, a top aide to and financial frontman of former President Mubarak, as well as to the accounts of Salem's son, Khalid. The businessman was arrested together with Salem. Evsen has owned shares in the Mediterranean Sea Gas since 2008.
In Azerbaijan, Evsen owns Evsen Group, which includes car dealerships, hotels and shoping malls. He is the brother-in-law of the Caucasus Muslims Office chairman, Sheikh Allahshukur Pashazada.
