Silk Road conference due in Chicago

CHICAGO – The Sixth Annual Silk Road Conference will be held in Chicago on July 20, with global energy security being high on agenda, organizers said.

The event, which will be held at the Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology, will focus on business growth resulting from expanding energy economies.

The morning sessions will be presented by diplomats from countries located along the historic Silk Road, which has changed dramatically in the last decade from camel trade routes to expanding highways, railways, gas and oil pipelines, and airports.

The countries whose participation has been confirmed include Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Romania, with most of them being involved in the Nabucco gas pipeline project.

The afternoon sessions will be presented by foreign business executives, representatives from foreign chambers of commerce, and academicians from prominent institutions. The sessions will be highlighted by discussions focusing on timely financial and legal aspects of doing business in this region, including China.

Hosting organizations are the Central Asia Productivity Research Center, which held the original Silk Road Conferences in Turkey and Azerbaijan; the Turkish American Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Midwest, the World Trade Center-Illinois; and Northern Illinois University’s prominent College of Business.
