Aliyev opens major marble and granite plant

BAKU - A major marble and granite plant opened Monday in the Garadagh district of Baku in a ceremony attended by President Ilham Aliyev.

President Aliyev was told that the rising domestic demand for marble and granite products in Azerbaijan has necessitated expanding this field of production. For this purpose, the Akkord Group of Companies has carried out extensive construction operations and overhauls, and built a plant with more extensive production capacities supplied with cutting-edge equipment.

19 million manats (over $23.7 million) have been spent to construct and upgrade the Akkord plant, with 3.5m manats of the amount made up by a concessional loan provided by the Economic Development Ministry’s National Fund for Assistance to Entrepreneurship and the Akkord company’s investments.

The plant will use raw materials from two fields in Azerbaijan, a field in Turkey, as well as granite deposits in Ukraine. With a monthly output capacity of 70,000 square meters, the facility will also use marble and granite plates delivered from a number of countries.

Ilgar Hajiyev, the owner of the Akkord Group of Companies, said the products made at the plant will not only meet domestic demand but will also be exported.
