Major salt factory to be launched in Azerbaijan next week
A factory producing iodized purified salt is due to be
commissioned in Azerbaijan next Tuesday.
The facility, being built in a seven-hectare land plot by the
Baku-based Azersun Holding and the Azerbaijan Investment Company
(AIC), will meet domestic demand for edible salt.
Azerbaijan’s annual demand for edible salt, which is 25,000 tons,
is currently being met both by local producers and suppliers from
Ukraine, Turkey and Russia.
The factory, located in the Masazir settlement, will use salt
extracted from the Masazir Lake. Also, raw materials will be
delivered later from Turkmenistan. The factory will have the
capacity to produce 200 tons of iodized salt per day, with annual
production estimated at 30,000 tons.
7 million euros have been invested in the construction operations.
Azersun Holding and the AIC will hold 75 percent and 25 percent
respectively in the joint venture being set up for the purpose.
President Ilham Aliyev is expected to attend the opening of the
factory.*
