Giant gold field found in Azerbaijan
A new gold deposit has been discovered in Azerbaijan’s Goygol
region, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov
told reporters Friday.
Bagirov did not specify the projected reserves of the find, called Goygol, but said it is believed to be the richest field discovered recently. Exploration work has been completed at the field, he said.
As for the Chovdar gold field spotted in the Dashkasan region, production there is scheduled to begin in late 2012.
Bagirov noted that over the past seven to eight years Azerbaijani geologists have discovered 170 viable deposits, with most of them holding the reserves of clay, pebble and volcanic dust.*
