Azeri citizen buys military township in Latvia
An Azerbaijani citizen has purchased a Soviet-era
military township in Latvia through an auction, Latvian news portal
Telegraf.lv reported.
Russia’s Alexeyevskoe Service had initially won the auction for the Skrunda-1 township, having bidden $3 million. However, Mahammad Gurbanov was named the winner after the company’s bid was invalidated due to its failure to transfer the mandatory down payment worth $190,000 by the February 19 deadline.
According to a representative of the Latvian agency in charge of privatization, Gurbanov, who had participated at the auction as a private individual, had bidden the second largest amount, which turned him into the owner of the enterprise.
Gurbanov will be notified of his win in a letter and is now required to contribute 7% of the total sum of the purchase. If the new owner turns down the acquisition, a repeat auction will be held.
Skrunda-1 consists of four land plots encompassing a total of 45 hectares. The facility includes 70 buildings, including housing, kindergartens, a hotel, a club, as well as a number of enterprises.*
