Azerbaijan intends to expand exports to Saudi Arabia
By Leman Mammadova
Azerbaijani export missions continue to expand with the aim of promoting country's non-oil products abroad.
Export mission of Azerbaijani entrepreneurs went to Saudi Arabia to establish cooperation.
Azerbaijan Export & Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) told Trend on December 13.
AZPROMO noted that the Azerbaijani delegation includes 29 companies engaged in the production of building materials, textiles, canned products, juices, as well as travel agencies, etc. The negotiations will last until December 14.
"In 2018, 10 export missions to various countries were organized by AZPROMO to date," said AZPROMO.
According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, the trade turnover with Saudi Arabia for ten months of 2018 amounted to $ 15.476 million, which is 5.7 percent more than the same period last year.
During the reporting period, Azerbaijan exported products of 727,000 dollars to Saudi Arabia, while imports amounted to $ 14.749 million.
Saudi Arabia's state-owned and private companies invest $ 368 million in Azerbaijan's economy.
Launched in 2016, the Made in Azerbaijan brand envisages a large-scale promotion of local non-oil products in foreign markets.
Export missions are a supporting measure to identify opportunities for accessing new markets, strengthen local product positions in existing markets and provide these markets with new products.
During 2018, export missions to Russia, Switzerland, China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Germany have already been sent.
As many as 25 export missions are expected to be organized in 2019. Local entrepreneurs will participate in major trade fair in Russia, UAE and Germany in February. The new market at which Azerbaijan aims is South Korea, Azerbaijan will be participating in the food fair there in May 2019.
Promotion of export-oriented local products under the Made in Azerbaijan brand in a wider geographic area also helps to attract foreign investment. The export of non-oil products will stimulate the expansion of the production of these products and will further strengthen the non-oil sector's share in the structure of the GDP.
