Modernization of Azerbaijan's chemical plant finished by 36 percent

The reconstruction and modernization of the Ethylene-Polyethylene plant of the Azerikimya production association of SOCAR company was carried out by 36 percent by the end of April 2018.

Orkhan Jafarov, Deputy Executive Director for Investment and Development at Azerikimya, said this during the 25th Anniversary International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition in Baku on May 31.

He noted that engineering work is completed by 90.1 percent, procurement work – by 49.6 percent, and construction work – by 15.7 percent.

“All the necessary equipment and materials will be delivered by October 2018,” Jafarov added.

The deputy director reminded that the plant will be put into operation after the reconstruction in the first quarter of 2020.

“As a result of the project implementation, ethylene production will grow from the current 100,000-105,000 tons to 192,000 tons per year, and the production of propylene – from 50,000-55,000 tons to 187,000 tons per year,” Jafarov noted.

He added that the life of the plant will be extended by 20 years.

Within the project of the Ethylene-Polyethylene plant modernization, which is being implemented in stages, work is ongoing to upgrade technological units, build new facilities and auxiliary sites.

SOCAR is a state-owned national oil company headquartered in Baku, Azerbaijan. The company includes such production associations as Azneft (the enterprises producing oil and gas onshore and offshore), Azerikimya (the chemical enterprises) and Azerigas (distributor of gas produced in the country), as well as oil and gas processing plants, service companies, and the facilities involved in geophysical and drilling operations.
