Azerbaijani delegation holds business meetings in Indonesia

Azerbaijan and Indonesia have great potential for the development of trade relations. This was said by Sri Hamengku Buwono, Sultan of the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta, during a meeting with Azerbaijani businessmen, Embassy of Indonesia in Baku told Trend on October 19.

Representatives of the Azerbaijani ‘Silk Road’ Public Union for Promotion of Development of Entrepreneurship, Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Husnan Bay Fananie and part of the embassy staff are on a working visit in Indonesia. A number of Azerbaijani businessmen are also visiting Indonesia to find new markets for Azerbaijani business sphere.

During the meeting, Sultan of Jogjakarta told the Azerbaijani delegation that the city is the center of industry and education. The delegation also met with Wawan Hermawan, the Deputy Head of the city’s Commerce Chamber, as well as with a number of Indonesian entrepreneurs. Moreover, the delegation visited local textile factory.

Within the trip to Indonesia, Azerbaijani entrepreneurs also held meetings in different Indonesian cities in search of opportunities to establish various business cooperation between Azerbaijan and Indonesia.

Recently, the Azerbaijani delegation visited the Trade Expo Indonesia 2016 exhibition in Jakarta. Moreover, the delegation has already discussed the possibility of abolishing visa regime for tourists from Indonesia, as well as the launch of a direct flight on route Baku – Jakarta.

In general, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $101.73 million in the first nine months of 2016, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.

This is mostly related to the energy sector, as Azerbaijan is the second biggest supplier of crude oil to Indonesia after Saudi Arabia. Indonesia has been importing crude oil directly from Azerbaijan since 2015. The country is the third largest trade partner of Azerbaijan.
