The men's individual epee at Crystal Hall features two-time world champion Nikolai Novosjolov of Estonia and Norway’s London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Bartosz Piasecki. Another one to watch is two-time Olympic medallist Ivan Trevejo of France, who is still going strong at 43.

Badminton, from 11:40

With Dutchman Eric Pang and Ukraine’s Dmytro Zavadsky both withdrawing from competition, Wednesday's men's singles contest between Kestutis Navickas of Lithuania and Bulgarian Blagovest Kisyov takes on new significance as the only match in group D. The contest between Navickas and Kisyov, expected to start at 11:40, will decide who tops the group.

Two stars of women’s Boxing will be in action when Team GB’s Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion Nicola Adams and world champion, European champion, and London 2012 gold medallist Katie Taylor of Ireland step up their medal challenges with semi-final and quarter-final bouts, respectively.

Taylor faces Sweden’s Ida Lundblad in the lightweight (57-60kg) division in the afternoon session, while Adams meets Elif Coskun of Turkey in the flyweight (48-51kg) category in the first contest of the evening session.

One of the most anticipated sports of Baku 2015 finally gets underway on Wednesday as Beach Soccer begins with all eight men's teams in action. The excitement begins at 16:00 with a classic Mediterranean battle between Spain and Italy.

Volleyball, from 19:00

Game of the day in the men's quarter-finals starts at 19:00 when Serbia take on Germany, whose coach Vital Heynen has brought a full-strength squad to Baku, having withdrawn from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World League. The pressure is on to finish highly in order to gain points for the Olympic Games qualification tournament for Rio 2016.
