Azerbaijani karatekas intend to win at least one gold, one silver and four bronze medals at the first European Games 2015 in Baku, President of the National Karate Federation of Azerbaijan Yashar Bashirov told Trend.

He said that 12 karatekas will represent Azerbaijan at the European Games, adding that high results are expected in particular from male karatekas.

“Of course, we expect good results from our female athletes as well,” he said. “But we expect better results from male karatekas.”

Azerbaijani karatekas prepare for their performance at European Games on a high level, the head of the federation added.

“We performed well by winning two gold and one silver medals at the European Championship,” said Bashirov. “We were preparing for the Championship at a high level. The Youth and Sports Ministry helps us in this. I believe that we will adequately represent Azerbaijan at the first European Games in Baku.”

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
