The Azerbaijani Pavilion installed at the “Expo Milano 2015" international exhibition won the “Towards a Sustainable Expo” award in "Best Design and Materials" category from the Italian Environment and Sea Ministry.

The awards ceremony was attended by Italian Environment and Sea Minister Gian Luca Galletti and the Commissioner of the Government for Expo Milano 2015, Giuseppe Sala.

The pavilion’s design is characterized by the use of glass, steel, certified wood, and walls with an innovative shading system reducing direct solar radiation.

Milan Expo-2015 has been actively functioning since May 1 and will last until October 3.

This year's exhibition brings together 145 countries under the motto "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.” Only 54 of them, including Azerbaijan, have been granted the opportunity to display national pavilions. The rest were given display stands.

The Azerbaijani national pavilion was organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Heydar Aliyev Center. The foundation was laid out in July 2014 and preparations and construction took 18 months.

According to the motto of this year's exhibition, the four-storey national pavilion, which covers 1,800 square meters, glorifies Azerbaijan's history and cultural heritage, rich environmental potential, and the richness of Azerbaijan’s flora, fauna, and rare biodiversity. A 300-man working group, consisting of local and foreign experts, was assembled to build the pavilion.

The World Expo is famous for the number of visitors and its scale. More than 11 million tickets were sold by May 1, the start of this year's exhibition in Milan. Since May 1, more than a million guests have visited Azerbaijan's national pavilion.

Azerbaijan was among the first countries to meet the requirements set forth by the participating states since the initial phase of preparation for the 2015 Milan Expo, as well as in terms of the presentation of the Pavilion's format and content.

The World Expo was first organized in 1851. The exhibition ranks third after the Olympic Games and World Football Championships for the number of visitors.
