Kazakh banks see rise in deposits in national currency

Kazakhstan’s banks increased the volume of deposits in the national currency, tenge, and reduced the volume of deposits in foreign currency in January-May 2015, the National Bank of Kazakhstan reported.

The volume of deposits in national currency increased from 5.198 trillion tenge (186.2 tenge = $1) at the end of 2014 to 5.472 trillion tenge (at the end of May 2015).

The volume of deposits of Kazakh banks in foreign currency decreased from 6.496 trillion tenge at the end of December 2014 to 5.975 trillion tenge (at the end of May 2015), the message said.

The total amount of deposits banks in Kazakhstan in all currencies fell from 11.694 trillion tenge at the end of 2014 to 11.447 trillion tenge (at the end of May).

The volume of deposits of non-banking organizations decreased from 7.297 trillion tenge at the end of 2014 to 7.174 trillion tenge (in late May). The volume of deposits of individuals in the reporting period decreased from 4.397 trillion tenge to 4.273 trillion tenge.

The banking sector of Kazakhstan is represented by 38 second-tier banks, 16 banks of which are with foreign participation.
