GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-American joint venture, will start a conveyor production of a new car model-the Chevrolet Orlando family minivan in the first quarter of 2014.

This was announced during the Uzbek and Turkmen presidents' visit to the General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan Company in Tashkent on Nov. 27.

The new car model was presented to the presidents of the two countries in an overall line-up of modern cars, trucks and agricultural machinery produced in Uzbekistan.

JV GM Uzbekistan has not yet commented on the planned volume of manufacture, technical specifications and cost of the project.

Chevrolet Orlando is a seven-seater compact family van based on the Chevrolet Cruze platform.

The five-door car has three rows of seats in any configuration. The car interior can be transformed into a large luggage compartment with a volume of 958 liters with five seats, or 1,594 liters with two seats.

Currently, General Motors produces this car model in South Korea, Russia, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Uzbekistan's Uzavtosanoat plant said earlier that GM Uzbekistan started producing a new Chevrolet car model-Chevrolet Gentra car which is a modernized model of Chevrolet's Lacetti car.

GM Uzbekistan JV was established on the basis of an agreement signed in 2007 between Uzavtoprom and General Motors and produces eight models of cars. Two of them- Chevrolet Captiva and Malibu models are produced with the technology of semi knocked down assembly. The remaining models are produced in full-scale.

In 2012, GM Uzbekistan JV increased its car production by 6.4 percent compared to 2011 - up to 235,518 units.
