Over 15 journalists arrested in Iran in two days
A new wave of arrests has hit Iran, as over 15 opposition
journalists were arrested in the country within two days, Trend
news agency reported referring to Fars agency.
On Sunday Jan. 27, 11 journalists from newspapers Sharq, Arman,
Bahar, Etimad, as well as from ILNA news agency and Aseman magazine
were arrested, according to Fars.
Mehr news agency reported that the journalists were arrested due to
the warrant issued by Iran's judicial system.
Daily Etimad newspaper, as well as editorial staff of Bahar, Arman,
Sharq and Aseman magazine have confirmed that their staff
journalists have been arrested.
According to Fars, the journalists were said to have been
cooperating with Western media, and soon the prosecutor's office
will make an official statement on the case.
Last week, Iran's Judiciary Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said that according to the information from reliable sources, the journalists who worked for local media in Iran, also worked for Western news sources.
