Draft project of Eurasian Economic Union to be ready by mid-2014

The draft project of the Eurasian Economic Union will be ready by mid-2014, Tengrinews.kz website reported quoting Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying after the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) Interstate Council in Moscow.

"17 documents regulating the Common Economic Space have been adopted, with another 52 to be adopted in 2013. By mid-2014 we will have drafted a full-fledged concept of the Eurasian Economic Union and we hope to launch the Union on January 1, 2015," Nazarbayev said at a press-conference in Moscow.

The member-states of EurAsEC are five countries - Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Ukraine, Moldova and Armenia has an observer status under this organization.

EurAsEC interstate Council session which took place in Moscow on Wednesday on the level of heads of states, adopted a budget policy for 2013, RIA Novosti reported.

The presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan as well as Secretary General of EurAsEC Tair Mansurov participated at the session.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his Kazakh and Russian counterparts Nursultan Nazarbayev and Vladimir Putin discussed development and deepening of integration between the three countries at the session.

After the session Mansurov mentioned that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are ready to join the EurAsEC Customs Union.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon stated that Tajikistan is not only willing to join the union, but also proposes to start practically work in this direction.

Mansurov added that Kyrgyzstan is the member of WTO, it will be easy for it to join the Customs Union, because the union was established in line with WTO requirements.

Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan signed an agreement for establishing Customs Union and united custom territory on December 6, 2007.
