White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in a statement about the decision, "Turkiye's desire to join the EU is not linked to Sweden's membership in NATO."
Sullivan also said, "Biden plans to forward the sale of F-16s to Turkey in consultation with Congress."
Biden: I am ready to work with Turkiye
In his statement after the agreement between Turkey and Sweden, US President Joe Biden said, “I welcome the statement that includes Turkey's submission of Sweden's NATO accession protocols to the Parliament. I am ready to work with President Erdogan and Turkey to improve defense and deterrence in the Euro-Atlantic region. I look forward to seeing Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson and Sweden as the 32nd member of NATO. I thank Stoltenberg for his determined leadership.”
