Gazprom has received the first permit of Turkey for the construction of the maritime area of the pipeline Turkish Stream in the framework of the preparatory procedures for the resumption of the project.

"I would like to note about the speed and coordination of work with Turkish partners in the first phase of the project Turkish Stream," , RIA Novosti quoted the chairman of the board Gazprom Alexei Miller.

The construction of the Turkish Stream pipeline to deliver Russian gas to Turkey via the Black Sea was initially scheduled to begin in 2014 but was delayed later due to the failure to reach an intergovernmental agreement. Negotiations on the project were suspended after downing of a Russian plane in Syria in November 2015.

After the August 9 meeting between the Turkish and Russian presidents, Turkey has confirmed that it’s ready to continue negotiations on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline project.

In addition, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak previously said the agreement on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline project envisions the construction of one pipeline leg by late 2019, with a possible expansion to two.

The minister also said Russia and Turkey agreed to set up a working group to implement the project aiming to bring Russian natural gas to Southern Europe via Turkey.

Previously, forecasting its construction timeline at the second half of 2019, Novak said that an intergovernmental agreement on the Turkish Stream could be reached and signed by October.
