New oil discovery may contain 5m tons
Oil has been discovered in Azerbaijan`s northwestern Samukh
district in the vicinity of the Eldar reserve.
Preliminary geological exploration has revealed that the area holds 5 million tons of oil. The samples, taken from oil extracted there, have been sent to the state oil company SOCAR, whose representatives are expected to visit Samukh shortly.
Additional oil reserves are believed to be hidden in the region, according to experts.
