TANAP to enjoy tax benefits
By Aynur Jafarova
The Trans-Anatolian pipeline (TANAP) project will receive tax benefits within the simplified oil and gas taxation system in Turkey, Trend news agency reported on December 4 with reference to the local Turkish media.
The country will cancel the value added tax (VAT) on the purchase of building materials for the oil companies.
Turkish media also reported that some 30-35 working sites will be created to undertake preparation and construction for the TANAP project, shown by the environmental impact analysis documents for the project.
The document also notes that approximately 500 people will be employed in each site, in addition to 50 people in each of the eight compressor stations.
The sites will be established on the most logistically suitable areas spanning some 2,000-kilometer-long route.
The TANAP project, jointly developed by Azerbaijan's SOCAR, Turkish state pipeline company Botas, and energy company TPAO, will deliver Shah Deniz gas to the Turkish-Greek border from eastern Turkey.
The initial capacity of the pipeline will be 16 billion cubic meters of gas a year. TANAP will connect to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) on the Turkish-Greek border.
Azerbaijani state energy company SOCAR has started choosing a location for the construction of TANAP. The process is done in collaboration with the Turkish Botas Company specialists.
Turkey expects TANAP to help reduce gas prices in the country.
