Turkish PM urges EU to take control of Nabucco West issues

The EU must take control of issues around the implementation of the Nabucco West pipeline, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban, TRT Haber TV channel reported.

He said as a Nabucco West transit country, Turkey is ready to take all efforts to assure an early launch of the pipeline.

Nabucco West will require the construction of the 1300 kilometre long pipeline (Bulgaria - 412 km, Romania - 469 km, Hungary - 384 km, Austria - 47 km) from the Turkish-Bulgarian border to Baumgarten. The gas to be produced within the second phase of development of the Azerbaijani gas condensate Shah Deniz field will likely be the main source of gas for the project.

Nabucco's current shareholders are Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas, Austrian OMV, German RWE and Hungary's FGSZ.

In June last year, a consortium for the development of Shah Deniz field selected Nabucco West as a priority route for gas supplies to South-Eastern and Central Europe.

A final decision on the choice of the pipeline route is expected in June 2013.
