EU loses nothing after ban on Iranian gas supplies - source
The European Union loses nothing after imposing sanctions on the supplies of Iranian gas, a source in the energy department of the European Commission told Trend news agency on Monday.
"There are no imports of Iranian gas to EU. EU itself is not receiving gas from Iran," the source said.
He added that Iran's gas production is mainly consumed domestically.
The EU governments last Tuesday imposed sanctions against major Iranian state companies in the oil and gas industry, and strengthened restrictions on the central bank, cranking up financial pressure over Tehran's nuclear program.
The import, purchase and transport of natural gas from Iran was also banned, following the more significant embargo on oil imports which came into effect in July.
