SOCAR to start transporting chemicals via its Georgia terminal in fall

Chemicals transportation through Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR's Kulevi oil terminal in neighboring Georgia may begin in September using a new propylene complex at the facility, a SOCAR source told Trend news agency on Thursday.

"Chemical products have not been transported via the terminal yet, but the process can begin in September," the source said. "This depends on Azerkimya production association."

The complex includes compressors, transformers, a nitric station and a pier to supply polypropylene. Products at the terminal will be loaded directly from railway tankers onto gas carriers.

The Kulevi terminal was put into operation in summer 2008. Its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year, including 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4 million tons of fuel oil.

The terminal has capacity to accommodate up to 168 tank cars. The tank farm's total space is 320,000 cubic meters, expandable to 380,000 cubic meters.
