BAKU – Azerbaijan exported 12 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey since 2008, according to an Industry and Energy Ministry department head Eldar Shiriyev.

Shiriyev said the gas was transported to the neighboring country from the Shahdaniz field in the Caspian Sea. About 4bn cubic meters were transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (BTE) pipeline in 2008 and 4.5bn cubic meters in 2009. This year, the projected volume of exports is 6bn cubic meters.

The BTE also transports Shahdaniz gas to Georgia, which is crossed by the conduit. 251.6 million cu. m. were pumped to the neighboring South Caucasus republic in 2007, 265.6m cu. m. in 2008, and 400.1m cu. m. in 2009. In 2010, 600m cu. m. are to be transported to Georgia via the pipeline.

Also, Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR transports 500,000 cu. m. gas per day to the neighboring country.
