BP’s output from Azeri oil fields near 800.000bpd in Q1
BP Azerbaijan produced an average 797.300 barrels per day from the country’s major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil fields in the Caspian Sea it operates during the first quarter of 2010. Thus, the company’s total output from the Chirag, Central Azeri, West Azeri, East Azeri and Deep Water Gunashli platforms exceeded 72 million barrels or 9.7 million tons, according to the Baku press office of BP, which operates the project.
BP Azerbaijan’s full year plan remains to be an average of 854,000 bpd (about 42.1m tons pa) production from the five ACG platforms. Of this, about 90,900 bpd is expected from Chirag, 184,200 bpd from Central Azeri, 285,700 bpd from West Azeri, 158,100 b/d from East Azeri and 135,100 bpd from Deep Water Gunashli, the company said.
During Q1 ACG spent about $155.3 million in operating expenditure and $341 million in capital expenditure. For the full year BP Azerbaijan expects to spend about $587 million in operating expenditure and $1,584 million in capital expenditure on ACG activities.
Azerbaijan produces most of its oil from the ACG fields. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline is transporting ACG oil. Azeri Light oil and gas extracted at ACG are taken to the Sangachal terminal for further pumping into the BTC pipeline, which extends to Turkey through Georgia.
During the first quarter the Sangachal Terminal exported about 76m barrels of oil, including about 66m barrels through BTC, about 8m barrels through the western route export pipeline (WREP) and about 2m barrels through rail. Also, on average about 22m cubic meters of gas produced from Azerbaijan’s biggest field, Shahdaniz, was exported from the terminal daily during Q1.
During the first quarter BP Azerbaijan delivered around 9.4 million cubic meters per day of ACG associated
gas to Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR. In total, the company delivered 0.8 billion cubic meters of associated gas during Q1. For the full year BP Azerbaijan plans to transfer 1.9bn cubic meters of ACG associated gas to SOCAR.
ACG participating interests are: BP (34.1%), Chevron (10.2%), SOCAR (10%), INPEX (10%), Statoil (8.6%), ExxonMobil (8%), TPAO (6.8%), Devon (5.6%), ITOCHU (3.9%), Hess (2.7%).*
