Turkey`s Petkim may buy raw materials from Azerbaijan
Turkey`s largest petrochemicals group, Petkim, partly owned by the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR, may begin purchasing some raw materials from Azerbaijan.
Petkim Holding officials, who visited Baku last week, familiarized themselves with a project on setting up a complex to manufacture petrochemicals and fertilizers and discussed exports of these products during their meeting at the state-run Azerkimya chemical producer.
51 percent of Petkim`s stock was sold to an alliance comprising SOCAR in November 2007. This is now the largest foreign economic project Azerbaijani companies participate in.
Petkim is one of the largest petrochemical enterprises in the region, with a strategic importance for Turkey.
The company, built by the TPAO oil group in 1962, is referred to as "the heart of the petrochemical industry" in Turkey.
Its products include plastic packaging, fabrics and detergents.
