A farewell ceremony for outstanding representative of modern Azerbaijani literature, holder of the presidential stipend, People`s Poet Zalimkhan Yagub was held at Baku’s Tazapir Mosque on January 11.
President Aliyev attended the ceremony and expressed condolences to the family members of the poet.
State and government officials, members of the parliament, public and culture figures also attended the ceremony.
Zelimkhan Yagubov was born in Georgia in 1950. He was one of the poets, who successfully continued the rich tradition of Azerbaijani poetry.
Skillfully using folk art, he created works that reflect the human qualities of Azerbaijanis, as well as national values and fateful moments in Azerbaijani history. His poems imbued with heroic spirit and patriotism, demonstrate true citizenship, and play a big role in the upbringing of the younger generation.
Deep knowledge of the musical epic-telling art form known as "Ashug", and its perception in all the nuances further strengthened the lyricism of Zalimkhan Yagub’s poetry. Therefore many ashugs and composers used his poems in their works.
The poet's works have been translated into many languages and were welcomed by art lovers. He was awarded many prizes, including “Shohrat” and “Sharaf” orders, the highest state awards of Azerbaijan.
Zalimkhan Yagub also gained wide fame outside the country. He was awarded the highest award of Georgia entitled the Order of "Honor".
