Scientists discover innovative luminiferous material

Azerbaijani scientists have achieved a breakthrough in the production of fluorescent lamps that can be useful under both ordinary and extreme conditions.

The researchers discovered luminiferous material that does not lose its intensity, which allows stable light-emitting at a wide temperature range.

The new material was revealed by Academician Bahadur Tagiyev and Professor Oktay Tagiyev.

The luminiferous material plays a major role in the production of fluorescent lamps, which is known for significant energy savings in comparison with incandescent lamp.

Deputy Director of the Physics Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Javad Abdinov said various luminiferous materials are used in the manufacture of fluorescent lamps at present.

“However, still in an extreme cold conditions, for example in Antarctica, these lamps are either not working or give very little light,” he added.

The scientist noted that in case of using the luminiferous materials discovered by the Azerbaijani scientists in manufacture of light sources, these materials will not lose their intensity over a wide temperature range – from 10 degrees Kelvin (-263 degrees Celsius) to 300 degrees Kelvin (26.85 degrees Celsius). For this reason, fluorescent lamps will illuminate the same rate at both room temperature and at very low temperatures.
