Armenian militaries breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan

Armenian armed forces have broken the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 98 times in various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian armies in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijani defense ministry said Nov.20.

Armenian armed forces located on the nameless heights and in the village of Voskevan of Armenia’s Noyemberyan district and Berkaber of Armenia’s Ijevan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the villages of Gushchu Ayrim and Gizilhajili of Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani positions also underwent fire from the positions located near the villages of Talish, Gulustan of Goranboy district, Goyarkh, Chileburt of Terter, Sarijali, Shikhlar, Shuraabad, Javahirli, Kengerli, Novruzlu of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Gorgan of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.

Azerbaijani armed forces carried out 107 strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
