Kazakhstan hosting session of CIS Heads of State Council

A narrow format meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council kicked off in Burabai settlement of Akmola region in Kazakhstan, on October 16.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is attending the meeting.

First, the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in a restricted format was held.

Welcoming the participants of the meeting, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said his country, as the chair of the CIS, is making efforts for the development of interstate cooperation within the framework of the organization.

He noted a good platform to discuss issues of multilateral cooperation between the member countries of the organization.

Touching upon the issues on the agenda of the meeting, Nazarbayev expressed confidence that the decisions taken at the event will give impetus to the further expansion of mutual ties.

Currently, only the CIS heads are taking part in the summit. Afterwards the meeting will continue in an extended format. The agenda of the CIS summit includes 17 issues.

In particular, CIS countries’ heads are planned to make statements regarding the 70th anniversary of the UN’s establishment, the 30th anniversary of the disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and about the fight against international terrorism.

A number of topics will cover the further strengthening of the military and border cooperation.
