Azerbaijani armed forces shoots down another Armenian UAV
By Sara Rajabova
Azerbaijan’s armed forces have annihilated another unmanned aerial vehicle of the Armenian armed forces on September 15.
Azerbaijan’s defense ministry reported that the Armenian armed forces’ drone, which was supposedly to be a Krunk-25 tactical UAV, was detected and destroyed by the air defense units of the Azerbaijani air forces while attempting to fly over Azerbaijani armed forces’ positions in the direction of Aghdam region of the frontline.
The UAV has a programmable autopilot and is equipped with video and photo cameras.
Its maximum flight altitude is 5,400 meters, the takeoff weight is 60 kg, length is 3.8 meters, and has a wingspan of five meters.
The UAV has maximum flight duration of five hours and a cruising speed of 150 km/h.
The Azerbaijani military destroyed the Krunk-25 tactical UAV of the Armenian armed forces in early August.
In July, the Azerbaijani Army destroyed an Armenian armed forces’ DJI Inspire1 (Quadcopter) drone.
Defying all international calls to abide by the ceasefire agreement with Azerbaijan, Armenia still continues to aggravate tensions along the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops with constant provocations.
Last January, the Azerbaijani armed forces destroyed an Armenian unmanned aerial vehicle while it was flying over Azerbaijani positions in the Aghdam region on the frontline.
In late 2014, a military helicopter belonging to Armenian armed forces was downed by the Azerbaijani armed forces while it was attempting to carry an act of provocation on the frontline.
Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994, but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions. Peace talks mediated by Russia, France, and the U.S. have produced no results so far.
