Russian navy fleet docks at Azerbaijani coasts

Russian artillery ships have docked on Azerbaijani coast of the Caspian Sea after the Iran visit.

The Russian flotilla`s small artillery ships "Makhachkala" and "Volgodonsk" and hydrographic vessel "Anatoly Guzhvin" arrived in Baku on August 13.

The warships were welcomed by representatives of the Azerbaijani Naval Forces and the Russian embassy, the Azerbaijani defense ministry said.

The guests first put flowers at the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in the yard of the Naval Forces headquarters.

In Baku, commanders and personnel of the warships will visit national leader Heydar Aliyev`s grave at the Alley of Honors, and pay respect to Azerbaijani shahids at the Alley of Martyrs.

The Russian delegation will also meet commanders of the Azerbaijani Naval Forces, management of Sabail District Executive Authority and Baku Sea Port. They will also view educational process at the Higher Military Naval School.

The delegation will also visit cultural and historical places In Baku, and play a friendly football match.

The visit is to last until August 16.

Azerbaijan and Russia established diplomatic relations on April 4, 1992.

Russia is the main trade partner of Azerbaijan in the CIS. It also ranks first among the countries importing from Azerbaijan.

Prior to visit to Azerbaijan, Russian navy fleet has docked at the northern Iranian port city of Anzali in a bid to boost friendly maritime ties between the two countries.
