Defense minister orders to raise combat readiness on frontline

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov has ordered the defense ministry to pay more attention to combat and practical training in order to increase vigilance on duty, and enhance the combat readiness of units and military equipment on the frontlines.

Hasanov and the managerial personnel of the ministry held meetings to discuss the results of inspections on combat readiness under an order by the Azerbaijani President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, the ministry reported on August 7.

During the meetings held with the participation of commanders, the chiefs of staff and other senior officers, Hasanov heard reports on the current operational situation, the state of readiness, defense systems, its comprehensive provision and other service issues.

Following, the minister gave the appropriate instructions geared toward increasing the combat readiness of units.

The visit of the ministry’s managerial personnel to the frontline units ended shortly thereafter.

The defense minister regularly checks the stability of the line of defense at the front, the troops’ capacity to return fire, the state of engineering and fortifications in the area, the organization of logistics for personnel at posts and positions, and the complete preparation of equipment.

Standing strong against Armenia's unceasing operations along the line of contact, the Azerbaijani leadership has moved to formulate the necessary armament policy by adhering to international requirements.

Azerbaijan's military build-up goes in line with the country's legal right to liberate its occupied lands by means of war should it be necessary.

Azerbaijan's internationally recognized Nagorno-Karabakh territory became a conflict zone following Armenia's aggression in the early 1990s. As a result of Armenia's armed invasion, 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory fell under Armenia's occupation. Nonetheless, the OSCE has attempted to foster a peaceful resolution to this conflict amid Armenia's persistent derailment.
