Armenian president turns to "political hypocrisy"

By Mushvig Mehdiyev

Top religious official in Azerbaijan has called the Armenian president a "political reactionary" while assessing his attempts to alter historical facts.

Commenting on the so-called "Armenian genocide", Head of the Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh said Serzh Sargsyan, who names himself president, has falsified historical facts and turned to hypocrisy.

"He said the "genocide" commemorations are for peace and friendship. One can ask him [Sargsyan]: if you are indeed a peace devotee, why don't you speak about the Khojaly genocide that was committed with your participation 23 years ago? Why don't you dare speak about that tragic event?" Pashazadeh stated at a meeting with Osman Nuri Topbash, the head of the Turkish Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Foundation on April 27.

Referring to Sargsyan's participation in the destruction of Azerbaijanis, Pashazadeh said he even confessed to the massacre of Azerbaijanis in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Sheikh blamed the Armenian president for selling the century-long events to the world under the label - "genocide", while turning a blind eye to Armenia's bloodthirstiness towards Azerbaijanis in the occupied lands.

"It is at least a political hypocrisy and such a manner doesn't befit a man calling himself president," he noted.

When Thomas de Waal, a senior associate at Washington DC-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, interviewed Sargsyan back in 2000, the then-Armenian Defense Minister Sargsyan confessed that the Armenian army had indeed carried out an ethnic cleansing campaign in the Nagorno-Karabakh region in order to achieve its goals.

War criminal Sargsyan even explained his personal warfare understanding saying: "When a shell is flying in the air, it doesn't distinguish between a civilian and a soldier; it doesn't have eyes".

As for the Azerbaijan-Turkey relations, Pashazadeh warned that there are forces that wish to divide Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Sheikh believes that those forces play deliberately an Armenian card, particularly its fictional "genocide" against Turkey.

"Despite everything, Azerbaijan and Turkey are brother countries, they share the same joy and sorrow," Pashazade said.

He believes that Armenia has been relentless in its attempts to paint itself as an "innocent victim", a defenseless lamb which suffered by the hands of those more powerful. The CMO claims that when it comes to committing genocide, Armenia takes center-stage as the country which committed great many crimes against the Azerbaijani people for the past two decades.

Armenia's cries against Turkey are but the manifestation of a long-standing ethnic hatred against the Turkish people. Even though Ankara invited Yerevan to team up and launch a comprehensive investigation into 1915 events, the latter turns down all calls for cooperation, preferring instead to retract behind its lies.
