A project called "From Tradition to Future. Azerbaijan Glamour" kicked off at a ceremony at the Heydar Aliyev Center on May 31.

Azerbaijan's First Lady and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, and Arzu Aliyeva attended the ceremony.

The project is aimed at supporting Azerbaijan's national values and traditions by integrating local ornaments into the world of fashion and expanding ties between the European and Oriental cultures.

Before the presentation, it was noted that the national clothing is reflecting artistic taste and culture of people formed over the course of history.

The tissue fragments discovered in Azerbaijan indicate that high culture of clothing existed here before Christ. Fabrics used in the national dress have been always notable with quality and elegance.

A film reflecting the philosophy of Italian fashion designer Renato Balestra was broadcasted at the event.

Then, a new collection of Renato Balestra was put on display. Worldwide famous model Irina Shayk adorned the podium, where over 40 samples of garments were presented during the fashion show.

The presentation of the collection started with garments, reflecting local features of historic and ethnographic regions of Azerbaijan, traditional designs used in the Azerbaijani national costume and carpet patterns along with elements of fire and pomegranate.

Then, modern garments with these classic elements were demonstrated.

The last part of the show was devoted to the collection of evening dresses, decorated with red and black embroidery symbolizing progress and development and embodying the fire - one of the symbols of the Land of Fire Azerbaijan.

The evening dresses were designed after acquaintance with the cultural artifacts stored in museums of Azerbaijan. These outfits were decorated with widely used culture images of garnet of gemstones as a symbol of fertility, prosperity, unity and fidelity.

After the show, Balestra highlighted that he is proud to be in Baku and expressed gratitude to President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.

He said that as part of the project, he studied the history and characteristics of the Azerbaijani national ornaments, and, inspired by oriental color, used national Azerbaijani elements in modern European fashion.
