Deputy Azerbaijani Foreign Minister received the delegation led by head of the Indonesia-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group MP Ferrari Roemawi on November 19.

During the meeting, Khalaf Khalafov said that the level of political relations between the two countries is at a satisfactory level, the ministry reported.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict emerged in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s that displaced over one million Azerbaijanis, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.

He also said the two countries established effective cooperation in the energy sector, adding that there are good opportunities for cooperation in the agricultural, cultural, science and education, and other spheres.

Providing information on the activities of the friendship group, Roemavi said that Indonesia has supported and continues to support the fair position of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

He said that cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the OIC has a special significance.

They also discussed the possibility of intensifying mutual visits, developing the juridical base, and strengthening the mechanism for political dialogue on bilateral and multilateral bases.

Azerbaijani and Indonesian officials also explored ways of boosting cooperation between their legislative authorities at the meeting of the two countries` parliamentarians.

The members of the commission on international affairs and inter-parliamentary ties at the Azerbaijani parliament met Indonesian delegation on November 18.

Speaking about the Azerbaijani-Indonesian relations, commission chairman Samad Seyidov hailed them as steadily developing.

He stressed the importance of reciprocal visits, saying "they contribute to further development of our relations".

Roemawi said the two countries enjoy mutual support on the level of international organizations.

He said there is great potential for developing relations in the fields of trade and investment making.

He stressed the role of legislative bodies in terms of developing Azerbaijani-Indonesian relations.

On the same day, the Indonesian delegation met with the economic policy committee at the parliament.

Committee chairman Ziyad Samadzade noted the progressive development of the relation between the two countries, saying that Indonesia possesses a high science and labor potential, and rich mineral resources.

Roemawi spoke about the importance of cooperation in the defense industry.

He said also noted the effectiveness of increasing economic and trade turnover between the two countries.
