Head of Department for Socio-Political Affairs at Azerbaijan`s Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov expressed regret over the recent statement of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy Catherine Ashton and EU Commissioner responsible for enlargement and European neighborhood policy Stefan Fule.

"Opinions of Catherine Ashton and Stefan Fule are based on unobjective, one-sided and biased information, which misinterprets election process in Azerbaijan," Hasanov said, AzerTag state news agency reported.

Hasanov said they allege that some events impact the pre-election process, human rights and freedoms, as well as general political situation in Azerbaijan.

"We affirm that the election campaign in Azerbaijan is being held in compliance with current legislation and international practice. All conditions have been created for candidates to implement their activity in accordance with the country`s legislation. The candidates are organizing meetings both in Baku and in the regions with their electors peacefully and without violation of laws, and also equally enjoy the opportunities provided to them under pre-election campaign. Generally, the security of the election process is appropriately ensured by the state bodies.

"The fact that some people face criminal charges for violation of laws has nothing to do with the election process. So linking the measures taken to prevent illegal acts with the election process is an unobjective and biased approach," he said.

The Azerbaijani government will implement its duties to continue the pre-election process in compliance with legislation and international practice, Hasanov completed.
