MP: Freedom House’s ranking of Karabakh as "partly free" is mockery of int'l law

US based Freedom House has ranked Azerbaijan's Armenian occupied Nagorno-Karabakh as "partly free". This is a mockery of international legal norms, Azerbaijani MP Aydin Mirzazade told Trend news agency on Thursday.

He said that Freedom House recognizes Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. However, the organization lists Azerbaijan's occupied territories as a separate zone.

"Year after year, Freedom House presents itself to the world community as an organization which does not recognize international law," he said. "It tries to create negative feelings towards some countries. Extremely unreliable and wrong information is disseminated not only about Azerbaijan, but also about other countries. Such misinformation has become a hallmark of the organization."

The organization calls aggressor-country Armenia "partly free", MP said.

"How is Armenia free?" he asked. "If it is so free, why is its population leaving? Why are Armenia's borders with its neighbors closed? Why is Armenia listed as an aggressor in the documents of international organizations? Moreover, ranking Azerbaijan in the lowest category, despite the country's work in many spheres of democracy and human rights testifies to the fact that the drafters of Freedom House's report have no idea about democracy or law. This organization seeks confrontation with the international community."

Freedom House's purpose is to discredit countries, regardless of their current democratic trajectory and to create a negative opinion in the global community about certain countries, the MP said.

"Its judgments of the Islamic world testify to this," he added.
