Ruling party: Citizens see Ilham Aliyev as their candidate at 2013 election

The Azerbaijani people's ideas about next year's presidential elections are directly related to the fact that Ilham Aliyev will remain Azerbaijan's president for the next five years, deputy chairman of the ruling Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov said Wednesday at an event in the party's office in Khatai district of Baku, Trend news agency reported.

It was held in connection with the ninth anniversary of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev's demise.

The shape-up of this opinion has been related to Azerbaijan's development and this development "is reflected in each Azerbaijani citizen", he said.

"Every Azerbaijani citizen and Azerbaijani family feel this development and see Azerbaijan's further development under the leadership of President Aliyev," he said. "They consider Ilham Aliyev as their candidate at the presidential elections in 2013."

Ahmadov also noted that about 600,000 Azerbaijani citizens are members of the ruling party.

"So many people have joined the ruling party," he said. "This testifies to the fact that Azerbaijani citizens and Azerbaijani people trust Heydar Aliyev's personality and ideas."

He stressed that youths play a special role among the people who joined the ruling party.

"This shows that Azerbaijani youths in their political activities rely on the ideas of Heydar Aliyev," he added.
