U.S. says terror threat remains in Baku

BAKU – The warning over an alleged terror threat in Baku issued by the US embassy in Azerbaijan remains in force, spokesman Keith Bean told the local ANS TV channel.

Bean did not cite the source that issued the terror alert. He added: "If we have issued several warnings over a terror threat, this means that the matter is very serious."

Early this year, the US, British and Israeli governments warned their citizens over an alleged terror threat in Azerbaijan, advising them not to travel to the country or stay away from public places. The US State Department said later that based on "terrorist threat information", the likelihood of such attacks remains high, though it did not cite the nature of the threat or who could pose it.

Azerbaijani law enforcement officials earlier dismissed the threat of terror attacks.
