BAKU – Azerbaijan’s accession to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), a group of countries that do not join military blocs, will not affect the country’s relations with other organizations, including NATO, head of the Azerbaijani mission to the alliance has said.

Khazar Ibrahim told the Baku-based APA news agency that NATO-Azerbaijan relations are developing "in a positive direction".

"Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with NATO and is its ally," he said. "We are playing an important role in Afghanistan. Azerbaijan is one of the key transit states for NATO’s operations there. Our cooperation is ongoing successfully in other areas as well."

Established at the Belgrade conference in 1961, the 120-member NAM includes the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
